CMOS Vision has developed a special De-Mosaic VHDL Algorithm for automotive applications. This De-Mosaic IP block preserves the maximum spatial frequencies while dramatically reducing moire artifacts. This strongly reduces colour artifacts from regular structures such as fences on the road side or corrugated sheets on buildings.

High Performance De-Mosaic Algorithms

Colour image, taken of a B/W star. This image illustrates the inherent performance of the de-mosaic algorithm. A simple de-mosaic algorithm will generate colour artefacts toward the centre of the star. The zoom shows us that we hardly have any de-mosaic artefacts in the centre of the image. It has to be specially noted that the used optics has a point spread function of less then one pixel size. Hence, we don't have any optical low pass filtering. With conventional de-mosaic methods, we would see, all sorts of colours in the centre of the star.
